Heart Healthy and Diabetic Friendly Cooking Techniques

Increase your culinary skills and knowledge with this informative class. Carol Ritchie, one of the recipe developers and spokesperson for the American Heart Association cookbooks will share valuable cooking techniques, such as basic knife skills, measuring/weighing your food and portion sizes, and stocking a nutrient-dense pantry, refrigerator and freezer. Special guest Margaret Hearn R/D, L/D from John Peter Smith Hospital in Ft. Worth joins Carol to share insight into the world of heart healthy and diabetic lifestyles which will help you learn how to educate yourself so you can ask informed questions to your health care provider. Recipes include: Roasted Asparagus and Mushrooms with Rosemary, Crisp Chicken with Raspberry Dipping Sauce, Salmon with Mango and Peach Salsa, and Poached Pears with Pomegranate Sauce.

Basic Knife Skills: Garnishing

Kitchen knife skills is where it all begins… and presentation is key! Learn classic cutting/chopping and garnishing techniques hands-on. You’ll practice your new talent transforming a plain chicken breast into a show-stopping grilled entrée with veggies, along with decorative Open-Face Sandwiches and Gourmet Strawberry Shortcake.

Quick Cooking Strategies

For the “rush hour cook”! Revitalize your cooking at home with a fresh and healthy approach. Versatile recipes include:  Penne Sauté with Italian Turkey Sausage and Vegetables, Grilled Chicken with Southwest Salsa, Fried Rice with Ham and Vegetables, and Greek-Style Sirloin Steak. Plus, shopping tips and nutrition label reading.

Private Classes
Don’t see what you want? You choose the menu and date! Gather your family, friends, and co-workers (10 minimum) for a fun-filled private cooking class with Carol at The Kitchen Store. For details, call 817-561-1200.

CLASS ENROLLMENT & CANCELLATION POLICY

All class fees are payable upon registration. Class size is limited, so we request that you register early. The class registration fee per person per class is $45, payable by cash, check, or credit card to The Kitchen Store. Students under 16 are welcome to attend (with paid registration), but must be accompanied by an adult with paid registration (except classes designated as "Kids" classes). Preparation for each class is always based on enrollment and requires planning several days in advance, therefore, refunds, credits, or transfers can only be granted prior to 48 hours before each class. We reserve the right to cancel or change the date or time of any class, if necessary, with notice and credit given to registered students. Menus are subject to change without notice. Questions?
